Joseph Bizard : “An increasingly fragile model”

OC Sport’s announcement on Friday 17 July that the Solitaire du Figaro will switch to Ocean Fifty from 2028 sparked a huge number of reactions (see our article), the overwhelming majority of them opposed to the project. To understand how the organiser had responded to the backlash, Sailorz spoke on Friday morning with its Chief Executive Officer, Joseph Bizard.

How The Solitaire du Figaro switched to Ocean Fifty

OC Sport announced on Friday that from 2028 until 2036, La Solitaire du Figaro will no longer be raced in Figaro Beneteau 3 yachts, but in Ocean Fifty trimarans. A seismic change for the event, first held in 1970, and for the Figaro class alike, which has already sparked strong reactions. Sailorz takes a closer look.

The Ocean Fifty Class sold out

Despite three capsizes during the Transat Café l’Or, the Ocean Fifty class, boosted by the Route du Rhum-Destination Guadeloupe, is approaching the season with the eleven boats of its numerus clausus and is taking back control of its championship to “move upmarket” and extend its appeal.

Having joined the Class40 circuit in 2019, Pierre-Louis Attwell announced this Friday the launch of Resilient, an Imoca project that will take him as early as this year through to the 2028 Vendée Globe on a daggerboard boat. The 29-year-old sailor from Normandy outlines the project for Sailorz.

Launched since last year on an Ocean Fifty project under the colors of Lazare x Hellio, Tanguy Le Turquais (36) and Erwan Le Draoulec (29) experienced a complicated end to the year with a capsizing a few hours after the start of the last Transat Café L’Or, which forced them to find financial solutions to set off again in 2026. One month before the trimaran’s relaunch, Sailorz spoke with the two sailors.
